TRIP OVERVIEW:

This premium overland route connects two of Africa’s most legendary wildlife sanctuaries. Departing from the safari gateway of Arusha, this itinerary takes you down into the volcanic floor of the Ngorongoro Crater before tracking northwest into the endless, predator-rich plains of the Central Serengeti.

ITINERARY:

Day 1: Arusha to Ngorongoro Conservation Area

After a morning breakfast, depart from Arusha and ascend into the cool, lush highlands of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Upon arrival, descend 600 meters down into the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera for a spectacular afternoon game drive and a picnic lunch on the crater floor. Because the high walls form a natural barrier, very few animals migrate out, creating the highest density of large predators on earth.

Day 2: Ngorongoro to Serengeti National Park (via Olduvai Gorge)

Following breakfast, journey northwest toward the Serengeti plains. En route, make a historic stop at Olduvai Gorge, an important archaeological site where some of the earliest human fossils were discovered by the Leakey family.

Enter the endless plains (“Siringet” in the Maasai language) formed by the same massive tectonic forces that carved the Great Rift Valley. Arrive in time for lunch, then embark on a late-afternoon game drive across the golden savannah fields.

Day 3: Full Day Exploration of the Central Serengeti
Dedicate a full day to tracking wildlife across the Seronera River Valley. This region offers unmatched, year-round game viewing due to its reliable water sources, which anchor large numbers of resident herbivores like topis, giraffes, buffaloes, hippos, and impalas.

The Dry Season Edge (June – November): Wildlife concentrates intensely along the remaining riverbeds, providing spectacular, high-action viewings of leopards, cheetahs, and territorial lion prides.

Day 4: Morning Game Drive / Return to Arusha
Catch the wilderness at its most active during an early-morning dawn safari. Return to camp for a hot, full breakfast at 9:00 AM before making the long overland drive back to Arusha.

The Fly-Out Upgrade: To bypass the 6-to-7-hour return drive, you can opt to catch a 11:05 AM flight from Seronera Airstrip directly back to Arusha, or catch a connecting flight out to Zanzibar for a beach vacation expansion.
